Yearly Check Ups

Regular wellness exams are the key to keeping your pet healthy. We recommend all pets undergo an annual "nose to tail" wellness exam, though more frequent exams are encouraged. As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and frequent exams can help spot health problems in your pet before they become expensive to treat and potentially life-threatening. During an exam, we examine your pet's nose, eyes and ears, check your pet's teeth and oral cavity, listen to your pet's heart and lungs, carefully examine the skin and coat for any unusual lumps or swelling, palpate the abdomen and muscles and perform an orthopedic evaluation of the bones, joints and back.

Vaccinations, heart-worm blood tests and fecal exams are just some of the important preventative measures that we recommend to keep your pets healthy.

Surgery, X-Rays & Ultrasounds

Our practice is fortunate to have the most up to date equipment and skilled practitioners to make your pets stay a safe and successful experience.

X-rays are one of the most useful techniques available for diagnosing your pet's problem quickly and efficiently. By providing an inside snapshot of your pet's body and organs, x-rays can aid in the diagnosis of orthopedic problems such as fractures and hip dysplasia, as well as arthritic changes in bones and joints. X-rays are also used to view the heart, lungs and abdomen, allowing for the diagnosis of heart disease, bladder stones, tumors and other health problems. We are equipped with the latest digital radiographic technology and our highly-skilled technicians are well-trained in using radiographic equipment.

Ultrasounds can be an important, non-invasive diagnostic tool for your pet. Used primarily for abdominal and cardiac problems, Norwalk Veterinary Hospital is equipped with the latest veterinary ultrasound technology to help diagnose disease and other health problems quickly and efficiently.

Often considered more exact than x-rays, ultrasound provides our veterinarians with a real-time "movie" of what is happening inside your pet's body. Ultrasounds can provide a highly-detailed image of your pet's organs, which leads to a fast, accurate diagnosis. Because the procedure is non-invasive, anesthesia is generally not required, resulting in a less-stressful, more comfortable visit for your pet.

Pharmacy

Our pharmacy includes Specialty Compounded and Flavored Medications. We carry an extensive inventory of veterinary pharmaceutical items, supplies, and medications, and are now able to provide many custom compounded pharmaceuticals such as flavored liquids and transdermal preparations. These special preparations are particularly useful for pets who are difficult to medicate.

Our Treatment Room

We have a fully staffed laboratory facility featuring state of the art IDEXX machines, which do all in house blood work, in house heart-worm testing, fecal examinations, and urinalysis.

Laboratory testing plays an integral role in the early detection of changes in your pet's health. Diagnostic tests provide essential information by which our veterinarians can identify blood disorders, kidney and liver disease, diabetes, infection, cancer, thyroid disease and other hormonal problems. Our extensive laboratory provides fast and accurate information that is necessary for the well being of your pet.

Dental hygiene is necessary for the well being of an animals health. We encourage all of our patients to have annual dental exams and dental prophylaxis when necessary to maintain their pets dental health. Our hospital has trained technicians for performing full dental cleanings using advanced dental equipment.
